报告摘要:
Fusion reactions can be achieved using deuterium from water as fuel. The amount of deuterium in one gallon of ordinary water contains the energy equivalent of three hundred gallons of gasoline. Satisfactory conditions of plasma velocity, temperature and density necessary to initiate fusion reactions have been achieved in various research facilities. However, confinement time has not been sufficient to achieve net energy gain due to plasma instabilities. Plasma instabilities can be suppressed in the spherical focal region of a multiple plasma beam configuration. Based on its mathematical equivalence with a star, such as the sun, equations are developed for the focal region and solved numerically for the density, temperature and pressure distributions that lead to a prediction of net fusion energy output. The results could lead to a feasible approach to achieve commercial fusion power from seawater without using the expensive and radioactive tritium as fuel.
